WHAT WE’RE DOING

Relief

RGBM Sister shelters - juarez & ojinaga

Given the unpredictable nature of the current asylum process, RGBM is working to support shelters on both sides of the Texas/Mexico border that spans from Juarez to the easternmost edge of Big Bend National Park. RGBM partners with COESPO in Juarez, Mexico and the city of Ojinaga, Mexico to support shelters in both of these cities.

The bridge chaplaincy

The ministry of our Bridge Chaplain, Ana Reza, seeks to welcome our neighbors at the border with dignity. Ana is a member of the diocesan staff and serves as a liaison between RGBM, the diocese, and the greater community, leading monthly community volunteer calls, ministering to shelter residents, and communicating with RGBM’s many partners and collaborators.

Advocacy

RGBM works in collaboration with advocacy organizations in pursuit of sustainable person-focused policy that enables our border communities to welcome with dignity.

episcopal migration ministries

RGBM works in partnership with Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM), working with EMM’s Asylum and Detention Ministry Network to engage in opportunities to advocate, learn, and pray in support of our immigrant siblings.

Frontera welcome coalition

The Frontera Welcome Coalition with the El Paso County Office of New Americans brings together nonprofits, local government, and faith-based groups to prepare to welcome migrants and asylum seekers as immigration policies change. This regional effort includes partners from El Paso, Ciudad Juárez, New Mexico, and swaths of West Texas. Given the ever-changing asylum policies, we coordinate with partners in the legal profession to work with those navigating the US asylum process.

Development

Boquillas and beyond

Boquillas and Beyond Mexico Mission, Inc is the driving force behind bringing solar power to rural areas. They have installed one solar system in the school at Jaboncillos, one in the Military Base at Boquillas, and one for the water pump at La Union. BBMM is currently building the solar works and the High School at Jaboncillos.

Rusty and Connie Nelson are the founders and devoted leaders of BBMM. Working with The Rev. Mike Wallens, they hope to attract groups to join their work in these rural areas.

JOIN US OCTOBER 14-19, 2024 FOR OUR NEXT BOQUILLAS working TRIP

On October 13, we will gather in Alpine, Texas, to cross into Mexico by 9:00 a.m. on October 14. The October project will be at the Boquillas Bautista Church. The plan is to install 900 square feet of ceramic floor tiles. We’ll remove all the pews and chairs and prepare the floors before tile installation.

We will work hard, pray with the community, and play with the kids as we build community.

RGBM contributes $2500 for these trips to cover the material cost. Those who participate will help with the cost of the material. We accept financial donations. Please donate using the red donate button and notify Ana Reza of your donation by emailing her at areza@dioceserg.org.

This will be the fourth working mission. Here is some information on Boquillas,  Visiting Boquillas - Big Bend National Park (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)
