Ministry in Impossible Situations

This week’s borderland update from The Rev. Canon Lee Curtis comes from the San Mathias shelter in Juarez! Canon Lee talks about the ongoing struggle asylum seekers are facing as they await to enter the United States. Watch the full update to learn more about how RGBM is showing up to be the heart of Christian service.

RGBM Cycle of Prayer

A new report shows immigration courts have hit a historical backlog of 1.6 million cases as of December, meaning asylum seekers and others seeking to adjust their legal status could wait up to 5 years. Please pray for those anxiously awaiting their case to be heard. Let’s pray for judges, lawyers, caseworkers, and all those involved in immigration courts during this unprecedented caseload. We are also asking God to encourage and strengthen the volunteers who pour out their lives to help those caught in the complex immigration system. We are reminded that this is a marathon for all involved and ask God for the hope to

persevere.

In the refugee family, seeking safety from violence, let us see your Spirit. In the migrant worker, bringing food to our tables, let us see your Spirit. In the asylum-seeker, seeking justice for himself and his family, let us see your Spirit. In the unaccompanied child, traveling in a dangerous world, let us see your Spirit. Teach us to recognize that as we walk with each other, you are present. Teach us to welcome not only the stranger in our midst but the gifts they bring as well: the invitation to conversation, communion, and solidarity. This is the help you have sent: we are not alone. We are together on the journey, and for this, we give you thanks. - Rev. Enock De Assis Empathy helps us cultivate love and welcome for our neighbors. May these stories in the Rio Grande Borderland Ministries and prayers help move us from empathy to action.
